When you increase the number of links coming to your blog from other blogs/sites the Page Rank of your blog rises. These links should be one-way links pointing to your blog. They should not be part of reciprocal link exchanges.
Matt Cutts, Google Guru, has a great tip to increase the number of inbound links to your blog by converting broken links. To do this you have to first identify broken inlinks pointing to your blog. Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) does this for you. For this first you should have submitted your blog to GWT and got it verified using the metatag method. After allowing a sufficient period for googlebot to crawl your blog go to :
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/webcrawlerrors?siteUrl=http://MYBLOG.blogspot.com/&hl=en&sort=1
Replace 'MYBLOG' with actual name of your blog and you wll get a table like this :
Click on Image to enlarge it.
On the left side is a list of broken links. Click on the "3 pages" link under the "Linked From" column in the same row as the broken link to find the address of those pages containing that broken link to your blog. You can then go to that blog and leave a nce comment under that post requesting the owner to change that link since it is a broken link. Also check if the blogger has his/her profile enabled and if there is an email address in it. If so you can email your request to change the link.
If you have a non-Blogger blog you can customize your 404 error pages by going to :
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/enhance404?siteUrl=http://www.MYBLOG.com&hl=en
Blogger however, does not allow customization of it's 404 pages.
